The professors Raúl Reina and Alba Roldán, who belong to APCOM lab, at the UMH, have published a study in relation to the sports physical practice in Spain by students with disabilities. This study concludes that less than a 20% of Spanish universities offer sport activities for students with disabilities.
Some of the main conclusions indicate that, more than 90% by the interviewees think that physical activity and sport is important for students with disabilities, but just the 35,6% of the university sports services has in activities for people with disabilities.
This study provides a proposals for action to address this problem and that the sports services of Spanish universities have tools to be able to expand their offer to students with disabilities.
The study has been carried out by the Miguel Hernández of Elche and ONCE Foundation and it is titled ‘‘Sports practice of university students with disabilities: Barriers, facilitating factors and employability’. The work has been granted by the European Social Fund and has been developed between 2016 and 2018.
